After 3 Hours, Area Woman Makes it Out of the House

PURSE DROPPED TWICE DURING LOCKING ACTIVITY

Local woman SC heaved a sigh of relief yesterday when, after preparing for over three hours, she finally managed to make it out of the house. "I just knew it was possible!" she exclaimed, "I've been training for a while, and it's just so fulfilling that it finally paid off." SC reports that she had a number of errands planned for the day, each requiring different preparation and materials to be carefully loaded into the car.

"What really slowed me down was looking for my bank account number in my files," she admits, "wouldn't it be wonderful if someday someone invented a way that this material could be placed in a drawer in some kind of logical manner that would help anybody who wanted to find it?"

Reputable scientists have issued a statement that this kind of "organization" is a relatively unknown phenomenon that would require an investment of at least 3.2 billion dollars over a period of 5 years to even begin to get a clue about how this might be accomplished.

Despite her statement regarding the allegedly obscure bank account number that prolonged her departure, however, allegations have surfaced that in actuality SC spent an unknown amount of time doing online activity as well as writing a copious and comprehensive master list of errands and related activities. It was apparently this activity that consumed most of her time, as well as what is often characterized as "general futzing around".

The universe responds

You have read my posts and responded! I have been visited by Kindly Spirits of the Blogosphere. (I imagine fairy godmother ladies -- but much younger (and with children and messy houses) -- flying in, magic wands in hand.)

Seriously, thank you for your encouragement. You put a smile on my face, so whatever else is happening to you today, know that you have shared a little sunshine.

So it's Saturday. I could see this blog thing getting to be way more fun than actually doing my house. B is out of town til tomorrow (I love how you refer to "the hubs" Mamma) which is why I have all this luxurious time to ponder the Deeper Meaning of how we live in and personalize our homes and plan how I will achieve inner peace, or at least more organized rooms.

My very nice neighbor, whom I've met exactly 3 times in the 9 years I've lived here, just walked over to invite us to have cocktails. So I guess I won't get too much done tonight on the house. Best laid plans, and all that.

Home Accomplishment du Jour: Took bags of clothes to Goodwill (had previously been identified as "to donate" but the bag sat in my closet for.......many months.

Ok, I'm going to accomplish something else before I go over for a drink - if I can tear myself away from this keyboard. Even if it's just one shelf.

Emptying the ocean with a teaspoon

Spent about 2 hrs cleaning/reorganizing closet shelves while listening to Trio II and Raising Sand. Several good decisions made and new ideas (develop those decision-making muscles!) So some small accomplishment.

Left myself a list of Next Steps for next time.

It feels like emptying the ocean with a teaspoon.

First Post

First blog, first post. Oy, the pressure. Start with anything. No one will read this but myself. The purpose of this blog is to help me make my house a more beautiful (and organized) sanctuary for my husband and myself, and an inviting place for guests.

We know that if someone measures or records progress, they're more likely to move toward their goal. (But let's leave the topic of goals for another post.) So I'm hoping that if I document this process in some way - try to be real about it - I may grope my way toward a satisfying outcome. I'll get into what the issues are later. The important thing is: no judgement.

I know I'm supposed to start with the outcome in mind, set goals, and break things into manageable tasks. Knowing all this has not helped me so far. Even occasionally trying it has had very limited success. So I'm going to try this approach, an approach which I plan to make up as I go along. :-)

Since in real life I'm a fairly private person, why not just keep an online journal -- why a blog? Partly because I guess I'm hoping for some kindred company along the way. Mostly because it's a fantastic way to procrastinate!

Ok now I've set up this blog (which is a word I don't actually like - sounds like blaah.....gue). Better actually do something about the house today. I'm in a coffeeshop, so when I go home I will....make dinner? and after that.....something that will feel significant, even if it's only a small thing. I'll decide when I get home.
